Spend a fascinating day exploring the filming locations of the gripping BBC Crime Drama Happy Valley led by David Glover, a well-known local historian and experienced walk leader with a wide-ranging knowledge of Calderdale's local history including Anne Lister and the Brontës
The critically acclaimed "Happy Valley" British television series, written and created by Sally Wainwright has captivated audiences around the world with its gripping storytelling and compelling characters. The show is set in the picturesque yet gritty landscape of West Yorkshire. During your "Happy Valley On Location Tour" led by David Glover, a well-known local historian and experienced walk leader with a wide-ranging knowledge of Calderdale's local history including Anne Lister and the Brontës you will see many of the famous locations used during the filming of Happy Valley.
First stop is Hebden Bridge where you'll see ‘Catherine Cawood’s’ house at Ivy Villas and NISA supermarket where ‘Neil Ackroyd’ works in all three series. Then we visit Sowerby Bridge and Tuel Lane Primary School where little ‘Ryan’ went to school and was stalked by ‘Tommy’. Remember when the body found in series 1; scene of ‘flying fridge’ in series 3 - we visit those locations too! Plus the former Sowerby Bridge Police Station, used as Happy Valley's Police Station in series 1 & 2 and of course the famous Railway Bridge, the scene of the Police suicide in series 2. After Sowerby Bridge we head to Elland where we visit the "End of terrace" used widely as ‘Faisal Bhatti’s’ Pharmacy in series 3, followed by Brooksbank Gardens & Talbot House – home of and scenes with ‘Alison Garrs’ in series 3 and the Old Fire station Café where ‘Catherine’ meets ‘Nevison Gallagher’ in series 2. We now move on to more exciting filming locations - Halifax - King Cross, Site of ‘Rush Hour in Todmorden’ scene & multi-prang scene in series 1. Halifax – Haugh Shaw & Steep lane - site of ‘Anne Gallagher’s’ kidnappers’ access and hideaway in series 1. Halifax – town - Former Swimming Baths – used as modern Police Station in series 3 & The Shay Café where ‘Faisal Bhatti’ and ‘Joanna Hepworth’ plot to drug a drink in series 3 & Knead Café – where ‘Catherine’ met ex-husband ‘Richard’ in series 3.
